Child Custody Investigation : 4 Days Exposed Unsafe Care

Terrance Private Investigator

Case Overview

A Houston father had not seen his child in longer than he was comfortable with, and he had real concerns about the environment she was being raised in — the supervision, the stability, the day-to-day care. He was in the middle of a child support dispute and did not even know where the other parent was living. He retained Terrance Private Investigator and Associates to locate the subject, verify her residence, document the presence and care of the minor child, and build a factual record his attorney could use.

Houston child custody investigation

The Challenge

This case had layers. Our client was not simply a worried parent checking in from a distance — he had specific concerns about whether the child was being left unattended, whether the living environment was suitable, and whether the subject’s conduct reflected the judgment a custodial parent needs to show. In our experience, these are exactly the concerns that are impossible to raise in court without documentation:

  • Concerns the child was being left unattended
  • Questions about the suitability of the living environment
  • Reckless conduct behind the wheel, around the child
  • No documented proof to bring before a family court

The Investigation

Four days in Houston. A locate operation first, then a pattern that built itself.

Before surveillance began, our team used database research, address development, social media review, and public records analysis to confirm the subject’s residence and identity. The client positively confirmed both the subject and a known associate, giving investigators a reliable foundation for field work.

Surveillance ran at a west Houston apartment complex in the Heights area. Day one was largely quiet, with the subject’s vehicle at the residence. On day two, the subject returned with the minor child and an unidentified male who helped unload items before leaving, then left the residence alone while the child appeared to remain inside — with no caregiver observed arriving or departing.

The most significant observations came on the third day. The subject again left without the child and no caregiver was seen. During that outing, investigators documented the subject running a red light. Later she traveled with the child to an urgent care facility and returned while driving at a noticeably elevated speed.

The final day was largely stationary. Investigators documented the subject briefly retrieving diapers and what appeared to be a baby bottle from her vehicle before returning inside. No further notable activity was observed before surveillance concluded.

The Results

By the conclusion of the investigation, our client had exactly what he came to us for — a factual record built by licensed investigators who observed, documented, and reported exactly what they saw:

  • A confirmed current address and verified identity for the subject
  • A documented pattern of the subject leaving without the minor child, with no caregiver present
  • Reckless driving documented — running a red light and traveling at elevated speeds
  • Timestamped observations of the child’s presence and care
  • A professionally prepared report ready for the custody proceeding

We observe. We document. We deliver. Clarity begins with facts, not assumptions.
